Business Studies

Departmental Overview

The Business Studies Department is a long established subject area which focuses upon both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

Business Studies provides a very broad curriculum of related topics such as Marketing, Finance, Management and Human Resources.

Business Studies and its related undergraduate level subjects (such as finance, accounting, management and economics) are among the most popular fields of study at universities worldwide.  Business graduates are highly in demand worldwide, business touches on pretty much every aspect of modern human society, Business Studies careers are diverse and often highly paid.

Business Studies also provides an excellent route directly into employment directly after sixth form and a number of our students have chosen this route into a professional career.

Courses Available

In Years 10 and 11 our students study the Edexcel accredited GCSE Business course.

In Years 12 and 13 our students have the options of either a BTEC Level 3 in Business or an A Level in Applied Business either Single or Double Awards (equivalent to one or two A Levels respectively).

Enrichment and Extra Curricular Activities

The department provides an open access Business Club every Monday to its Business Boardroom suit of laptops and PCs.  We also provides a specific GCSE Business after-school catch up session each Thursday afternoon.

The department seeks to provide a holistic approach to the subject, with an extremely well developed portfolio of business supporters via the school’s own Corporate Advisory Board. This group of internationally recognised companies provide work placements, mentoring and guru lectures to the department as well as the wider school via the Corporate Liaison and Work Related Learning Department.

Students from the A Level in Applied Business and BTEC course are invited (along with those from A Level Economics and STEM subjects) to take part in the Career Ready Programme which leads to a paid summer internship placement, a professional mentor and access to a bespoke range of visit, master classes and guru lectures all intended to enrich the students own educational experience.
