Tuesday 9th February, four Year 8s represented Westminster at the London Youth Games Para-Tennis tournament at Westway Sports Centre. Out of 17 North London boroughs, Westminster/QK finished 7th overall.
Each match played consisted of 4 separate rubbers:
– Boys 1 vs Boys 1 singles
– Boys 2 vs Boys 2 singles
– Girls 1 vs Girls 1 singles
– Girls 2 vs Girls 2 singles
With a mixture of both excitement and apprehension prior to the tournament starting, they came up against Hillingdon, Enfield and Havering in the group stages. They came together to form a great team spirit, encouraging each other when they were not playing and they finished win 2 wins and 1 loss out of three group matches. This resulted in a 2nd place finish in the group stages, qualifying us for a ‘runners up’ semi final place. Here, we came up again Kingston where the match finished 2-2. This meant the result went down to total points won, which unfortunately meant they finished just ahead of us.
Overall, the students really enjoyed themselves and were great representatives of the school and the borough. They received certificates, which they will received during their next assembly.
Westminster’s Player of the Tournament goes to Maryum 8N for winning 3 out of her 4 singles games in convincing style.
