Duke of Edinburgh – Tea and Texting
On Wednesday 27 January, ten Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh students took part in a ‘tea and texting’ volunteering opportunity in a local cafe.
They met five older residents from the community that live in council housing and/or sheltered housing, giving them assistance in using their technological devices. They spent over an hour helping them use their new mobile phones and tablets, allowing them to feel confident in sending text messages, emails, picture messages, and generally helped them feel comfortable using the devices. There would have been more residence in attendance, had it not been for the weather.
Even though our students were very apprehensive to start with, by the end of the session, it was hard to pull them away from their new buddies. They showed great emphasis on our school value when helping out in the community.
